27 Apr - Hong Kong band Beyond is set to reunite, at least temporarily, at the upcoming charity concert to commemorate their beloved late vocalist and co-founder Wong Ka Kui.
As reported on Epoch Times, members Paul Wong and Yip Sai Wing recently held a press conference announcing the concert, “Ka Kui… The Love Continues Charity Concert 2016”, saying that it will be held on 10 June in celebration of what would have been Wong Ka Kui’s 54th birthday.
Yip revealed that the idea of the concert was inspired by a friend who showed him a charity concert poster last year. The drummer stated that he hopes to set an example by holding a concert that can both commemorate Wong Ka Kui and also engage in charitable work.
“We hope that we can raise millions for charity,” he said.
Yip also stressed that Beyond is not reuniting for good and that they decided to do so just for the show, as a meaningful gesture for their late frontman.
When asked why fellow Beyond member Steve Wong was a no show at the press conference, Yip said that Steve Wong has been very supportive of the concert but was unable to come due to other commitment.
Other stars who will be performing at the show include Hong Kong band Tai Chi, Shino Lin, Dominic Chow, and GEM Tang.
Wong Ka Kui was hospitalised on 24 June 1993, after falling off the platform of a Japanese game show 2.7 metres to the ground. He fell into a coma and was pronounced dead on 30 June, following traumatic head injuries.
