COMPENSATION for the family of Beyond lead singer Wong Ka-kui may depend on the outcome of Tokyo police investigations into the accident which caused his death.

Police have interviewed everyone who was on the set of the Fuji Television comedy show when the 31-year-old singer fell from a 2.3-metre-high stage. Wong died of a cerebral haemorrhage six days later in a Tokyo hospital.

Fuji Television’s public relations manager, Takeshi Tsukii, said: ’‘We will start our talks on compensation with the family when they wish to have them. We might wait for the outcome of the investigation or we might proceed with the talks, it depends on the situation.’’ The talks will be between Fuji Television, Beyond’s managers Amuse, and Wong’s family.

Fuji Television paid for flights and hotel accommodation for Wong’s relatives when they visited him in hospital in Japan and gave $1 million for his funeral.

The company’s programming director will make a decision at the end of this week on whether to axe the highly popular three-year-old comedy show which Beyond were filming.
